Laois based machinery dealer BMS (Bailey Machinery Sales Ltd.) have just taken delivery of a very unique bale trailer designed by northern Irish based machinery manufacturer, SlurryKat ahead of this year’s national ploughing championships in Tullamore Co. Offaly.
BMS were recently appointed as SlurryKat`s southern Irish dealer in order to help expand their brand presence and increase market share. This new bale trailer is the start of this relationship coming to light.
SlurryKat themselves are not only a leading machinery manufacturer but also operate a successful agri contracting and plant hire enterprise which doubles as a test facility to put new machine designs through their paces ahead of being released to market. This bale trailer is an example of how SlurryKat`s “hands on” knowledge of actually working the machinery themselves in the field has been applied to the design process in order to make their machines more efficient and safe.
Starting from the ground up, this trailer sits on 550/45R22.5 floatation tyres with various other sizes available to suit different customers’ needs and working conditions. The tyres and rims are all brand new and fitted to high speed axles as standard in order to maximise braking efficiency and safety regardless of the towing tractors speed. To further increase safety, side crash bars are fitted along with high visibility markings and a full LED light package including a rear facing warning strobe beacon.
The axles are fitted to a full commercial spring suspension system which is in turn fitted to a full length heavy duty RHS box section chassis. A rocking beam (bogie) suspension system is also available as an option.
At the front an adjustable stand underneath is used to keep the trailer level in the field for loading as well as a double coil sprung drawbar and high tensile towing ring. The increasingly popular spoon hitch is also available as an option. Completing the package underneath is a galvanised toolbox which is fully lockable as well as rear mud flaps.
Up top is where all the action is with the trailers party piece, the double hydraulic bale clamping system. This system consists of a full length heavy duty steel clamp that is galvanised on each side of the trailer, these clamps lower and rise hydraulically all controlled from the tractors cab. The idea is that you lower the clamp down in order to load your trailer and once completed raise it back up into the locked position therefore clamping the bales securely in place. Each side can be controlled individually of each other and lock in place hydraulically via a stop lock valve (requires pressure to release). Completing the clamping system are front and rear 6ft high bale racks. This unique clamping system removes the need for strapping the load which in turn saves time and improves productivity but more importantly it vastly increases safety.
All SlurryKat equipment is finished by firstly being shot blasted before being primed and then painted to the customer’s desired colour with the latest 2 pack high durability paint and finally oven baked. All machines are available with various different options to suit the customers exacting needs including length, braking system etc.
