One of our long standing customers, Thomas Steele from Steele Farms in Coleraine, Northern Ireland, recently shared his thoughts on his SlurryKat Shear Grab, which he's been using for nearly a decade.Reliable Performance on a Busy Dairy Farm
Thomas and his brother run a dairy farm with around 300 cows, keeping all of their calves either as replacement heifers or for beef. The farm feeds roughly 15 tonnes of silage per day, so efficiency and durability are crucial.
"Hello I'm Thomas Steele. I farm here along with my brother in Coleraine, Northern Ireland. We are mainly a dairy farm and we milk with around 300 cows and we keep all of our calves either through to replacement heifers or beef."
Thomas purchased his SlurryKat Shear Grab back in 2016 and after 9 years of daily use, it's still performing exceptionally well.
"We bought the shear grab back in 2016 so we have it now 9 years. Well pleased with it. When it's sharp it leaves a real good face. The silage blocks come out of it quite easily, so you don't have to shake it too much. It's a good size. It holds around 1200kgs. So, it speeds up the filling time of the feeder."

"And the paintwork's very good on it for being 9 years old, the paint seems to be standing up to the time quite well!"
Over nearly a decade, the Steele brothers have put their shear grab through heavy use, feeding an estimated 50,000 tonnes of silage in total.
"We would feed roughly 15T of silage a day and when you do the maths on it, we reckon that's about 50,000 tonne we have feed over the space of 9 years. So, it's quite a lot of grass to go through a small grab. I wouldn't like to be putting it all into the clamp of the grab anyway."
