Shane Beattie of BT Farms, Ireland shares their experience with SlurryKat 3000G Tanker & 12m Dribble Bar.

Long term SlurryKat customer BT Farms review their SlurryKat equipment. Over the past 8 seasons, their SlurryKat machinery has continually proved highly successful for the Irish farm, having "zero regrets" with their investment.

The farm is ran by Shane Beattie, alongside his father Trevor and uncle Morris and operate a mixed agri enterprise based in Nurney, Co. Kildare, Ireland. With 700 acres of tillage crops, 300 acres of grass and a herd of beef cattle.

In 2018, the farm made their first major machinery purchase — a SlurryKat Premium Plus™ 3000G tanker, fitted with 10.5m Premium Plus™ dribble bar (later upgraded to a 12m model in 2022).

"There was a lot of thought went into which tanker we'd buy. We thought long and hard about it and we looked at many different brands and in the end we went with SlurryKat," Shane recalls. "Overall, everything about SlurryKat ticks a lot of boxes for us," he continued.

"When we purchased the tanker a few things stood out to us; the build quality seemed second to none, the added little extras that you get as standard on the tanker, also then it had the look appeal. It was a good tanker, it's nice to look at, it stood out." The machine has since spread approximately 1 million gallons of digestate annually and continues to operate flawlessly.

Built to Perform — In Field and On Road

Now into its 8th working season, the 3000G tanker and 12m dribble bar are central to slurry and digestate application across their farm. Key features include 710 tyres, air and hydraulic brakes, sight tube, additional LED lighting and twin macerators on the 12m applicator.

"The tanker is currently in its 8^th season. We spread approximately 1 million gallons a year with it, all from the dribble bar. In those 8 seasons we've had no issues," said Shane.

"The tanker just travels perfectly on the ground, even if it's a little damp. It's very comfortable on the road. She's a great tanker to pull behind. Overall, I wouldn't be looking elsewhere for a tanker if I was in the market for another one."

Sustainability and Soil Health at the Core

For BT Farms, the switch to a SlurryKat dribble bar system has had a massive impact for them, environmentally benefitting, but also for saving on fertiliser costs and getting greater crop yeilds.

"Over the years we've found with spreading digestate, we're getting more benefit using the dribble bar. Obviously, we're capturing more nitrogen, more nutrients, we're using less slurry."

"We produce a lot of haylage and hay and silage for the mainly the equine industry. So, grass growth to us is very important. It's important we get decent cuts of grass all the time and with this 12m dribble bar, we're able to do that."

"This grass hasn't got bagged fertiliser in 10 years. And that's down to, partly just using digestate, but also, swapping over from splash plate to dribble bar," Shane explained.

Maintenance Made Easy

Shane notes the tanker's low maintenance needs.

"It's fairly straight forward, keep it greased, keep it washed, keep it housed. The pumps as well, they're all good, everything is pretty straightforward on it there. If I washed that up, it would look the day as if it came out of the factory."

Following from the tanker's low maintenance, Shane similarly explains the maintenance for the dribble bar and twin macerators.

"We have no issues with the macerators. It's pretty straight forward, empty the stone trap every day after you're finished using it and you're good to go. Maintenance wise it's fairly straight forward. Fold her out, you've your greasing points clearly labelled. Just give it a shot of grease."
